Autodesk Revit is a tool used in the process of BIM. Revit can be compared to how a hammer relates to a builder. Without it the house (BIM) cannot be built. There are many tools on the market used to produce BIM.
Revit designers used 2D AutoCAD to produce scaled drawings. Each perspective was a separate scaled drawing. When a design change needed to be made, each view (Plan, Elevation, Section, 3D Perspective) had to be changed separately.
Architects, Engineers and Designers create these 3D models using Revit Content (also known as Revit Families). This Revit Content forms the basis of a Revit Model (like nails are to a builder's hammer) and allows the BIM process to be undertaken.
